BURNLEY'S bus station was reduced to a pile of steel and rubble in a matter of hours after the bulldozers moved in at the weekend.

Three excavators rolled in on Saturday morning and within a short space of time the first phase of the £3 million development was under way.

The works are due to take 40 weeks with estimated final completion in July next year.

The information centre also came down.

As well as a new bus station the scheme will also see a cafe, shop, travel and tourist information office developed on site and a purpose-built taxi rank and dropping off bay at the Gunsmith Place end of the concourse.
