MOTORISTS in Barnoldswick who have come across delays at the town's Fernlea traffic lights have been assured the lights will be fixed next week.
Signal controls at the busy Barnoldswick junction have been stuck on their basic 'timed' setting since workmen, carrying out resurfacing work in Rainhall Road, cut through loops helping to control the traffic flow.
Local councillor David Whipp said: "Normally the loops sense approaching vehicles and change the lights to green according to the weight of the traffic."
Coun Whipp took up the problem with highways officials and was originally told that it would be after Christmas before new loops could be installed.
Unsatisfied with the response, Coun Whipp then raised the issue with county council officials, responsible for organising the work.
He said: "The Environment Director has now said that new loops will be put in within a week.
"That is good news for motorists frustrated by needless delays at the lights. Early work is essential with all the extra traffic being diverted through Barnoldswick".
