A NORMANDY veteran, Dunkirk veteran and Waterfoot resident handed in 170 letters of objection to the sale of part of a memorial ground in Waterfoot.
Normandy veteran Peter Cooke, Dunkirk veteran Jack Saunders and Christine Lomax, of Burnley Road East, handed in the letters to the Rossendale Council to formally object to a proposal to buy a section of the ground which has been leased for use as a garden for many years.
The owner of a house on Thistlemount Avenue has leased the land and now has permission to build a conservatory but wants to buy the land first.
Councillors will discuss the proposed sale, on December 4, after first visiting the site.
