WORK to replace a dilapidated footbridge in Padiham is due to start this week.
The new bridge will be at the end of Canning Street and take pedestrians over Green Brook. The present bridge is thought to be in a poor condition but it is not believed to represent a danger to the public.
Construction work for the new bridge involves building a new footbridge deck along with reinforced concrete abutments.
Padiham county councillor Marcus Johnstone said: "People will be able to use the bridge during the construction work and will be able to go about their business without any disruption.
"The bridge has come to the end of its useful life and I am very pleased that a replacement will at long last be provided."
The bridge will take at least six months to complete.
