COLNE Library has thrown away the rule book and rearranged part of its collection in an 'unclassified' display.
The 'unclassified' collection drops the traditional A-Z sequence and classifies books in different ways, some thematically and others by the colour of their cover to make people think again about the books they read.
The new look is part of a national scheme and enables local readers to select from a much bigger variety of books arranged together.
County Councillor Niki Penney, the cabinet member responsible for libraries, joined the chairman of Lancashire County Council, County Coun Dorothy Westell, and the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Colin Waite, for the grand opening at the library.
She said: "The unconventional arrangement and eye-catching displays encourage those customers who like to browse and perhaps want to try something a little different.
"With more than a thousand new books there is something for everyone in the 'unclassified' reading material, whether it be for simple escapism or something seriously funny I would encourage everyone to come and take a look."
