TWO sixth form students from Stonyhurst College have enjoyed an unforgettable visit to Auschwitz - the site of the most famous German concentration camp from the second World War.

Head pupil Oliver Spratt and Alexandra Dixon were part of a group of more than 200 students from all over the UK to take part in the visit, arranged by the Holocaust Education Trust.

They were accompanied by Michael Turner, the college's head of history.

Both Oliver and Alexandra are studying the Holocaust as a special topic in their history A-level.

Oliver said: "I felt I had a duty to experience for myself what this place meant and to give the black and white images from the text books a degree of reality, albeit 50 years on."

On their return the students gave a school assembly to fellow pupils on their experiences.
