POLICE are warning householders to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries, mainly involving jewellery.
In the past six weeks police said there have been more than 40 reported incidents at addresses in the St James area of Darwen. Premises have either been damaged in attempted raids or been burgled.
Sergeant Andrea Bradbury, of Darwen Police, said of the houses targeted jewellery was the main item stolen -- and the majority happened in during the day.
The latest incident was Monday at a terraced house in Chapels. Police said raiders took two diamond solitaire rings, a Celtic Valhalla ring and matching bangle and a silver watch totalling around £600. They also stole £98.
Sgt Bradbury said householders should remain vigilant and appealed for information on the thefts.
She said second-hand dealers in Darwen and Blackburn may have been approached with the jewellery. Contact Darwen CID on 01254 353841.
