YOUNG people from local colleges and schools are being invited to enter a competition to produce a logo for the community economic development section of Pendle Borough Council.
The winner of the competition, aimed at 14 to 18-year-olds, will receive book vouchers to the value of £40 from Marsden Building Society and be asked to nominate a school or youth club to receive £450 worth of computer equipment, supplied by 3B Systems of Nelson.
Community Economic Development, or CED for short, is about developing skills which help people get jobs, cleaning up the environment to make people want to live and feel safe and encouraging businesses to locate to the area.
The council is looking for a new logo incorporating the "CED" acronym, for use on their web-site, posters, display-boards and other marketing material.
Paul Crowther, a CED project worker, said: "International companies such as McDonalds, Coca-Cola and Nike all have logos which are instantly recognisable.
"We are asking young people from schools and colleges to produce a logo that sets us apart from the rest."
Entry forms can be obtained from the Nelson or Colne branches of Marsden Building Society, 3B Systems in Every Street, Nelson, and Tackling Unemployment at 28, Carr Road, Nelson, or by contacting Paul Crowther on 01282 661613. The closing date for entries is Friday, January 11, 2002.
