THE Wesham 10K is unusual in that it is a road race held on a Saturday - most are Sundays.
It is always heavily subscribed and despite holding a permit for 350 runners they may end up turning runners away.
To save a wasted journey please check first with organiser Ian Rawcliffe on 01772-499578.
The race starts at 11am this Saturday from the Boys' Brigade Centre, Carr Lane, Treales, near Kirkham.
The orienteers will be busy this weekend with a choice of events.
On Saturday, Pendle Forest Orienteers hold their 5th autumn informal event at Towneley Park in Burnley.
It is ideal for first timers, for school and youth groups and for those with some experience who want to develop their skills. You do not have to be a member of a club. Instruction for first timers is at 10am, and registration is from 10am for starts from 10:30am.
The event will be signed off the A671, 2km SE of the Town Centre. Tom Gray will give you more information on 0161-766-5666.
The second orienteering offering is the Cowpe Badge Event on Sunday. The venue will be signed on the A681 at both ends of Waterfoot in the Rossendale Valley.
The assembly area is at Waterfoot Health Centre and then there is a 1900m trek to the start.
The terrain is over highly technical mining areas, generally fast runnable over open moorland. Cagoule and whistle are compulsory.
Although this is a C3 event for experienced orienteers, there are 16 different courses in 30 age groups and children will be catered for.
There will be limited entry on the day so please check first with Mr Clive Atty on 01204-301390 (before 9:30pm). Registration is from 10am for starts from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
The rearranged Golden Ball Inn 5K is on Sunday at 11am. It starts at the pub of the same name which is on Lancaster Road, Morecambe near Asda.
For women only there is a 5.25M road race in Salford on Sunday. The venue is Grosvenor Road School on Barton Road in Swinton. Start time is 11am.
The Darwen Biathlon is on Sunday at Darwen Leisure Centre.
A half mile swim will be in the morning with a five mile run over tarmac and cart tracks is in the afternoon. You can enter as an individual or in teams of two. There are more places available than last year, so it may be worth checking for late availability with Matt Donnelly on 01254-608888.
