BOOKWORMS can help raise cash for Queen's Park hospital with the second volume of an historic new book.
The result of a meeting between auxiliary nurse Dino Christodoulou and a millionaire patient at Queen's Park, '1963 Blackburn: A Proud Town' is a two-volume book being sold to raise money for the stroke ward at Queen's Park.
The first volume hit shops in February and was a huge success. But there were too many photos to fit into one volume, so now the second is available and is a must for anyone interested in the history of the town.
Mr Christodoulou, 38, said: "A year or so ago I was doing a slide show for patients. One of them had an attic full of slides so I showed them to the patients." Then millionaire former businessman Peter Street, of Langho, offered to pay the cost of the production of a book of the slides, after meeting Dino on the ward when recovering from a stroke.
Dino said: "All the money goes to the patients. We had two thousand books printed, and they were so successful we had to print another thousand.
"The money will be used to buy special beds. None of it will go into anyone's pocket. People know it is a good cause and that the cash is going there."
The books cost £5 at stores across the town, including Queen's Park Hospital shop, Blackburn Cathedral and the Lancashire Evening Telegraph reception.
