A TEENAGE girl was stabbed in the back by four other children on a busy Torrisholme street.

The 14-year-old was attacked by the group in a play area off Michaelson Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Initially, the group of four girls approached the victim and confronted her, before pushing, hitting and kicking her.

The girl then left the park, but was again confronted by the same group of girls who hit her.

The girl was then stabbed in the back by one of the other children with what is believed to be a knife.

She was taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary for observation, but ambulance crews have admitted that the injuries from such a stabbing could have been life threatening.

The attackers are all described as white and female. The first is described as 14 years old, possibly younger, with brown/blonde, straight, collar length hair, a black leather or leather type jacket and trousers (colour unknown).

The second is also 14 years old, 5ft 5in tall, shoulder length straight blonde hair and wore a creamy or white leather type jacket which was buttoned up and a white shirt, she was also wearing trousers of an unknown colour.

The third girl is described as round 15 years old, 5ft 10in tall, of fat build with straight, black, collar length hair, wearing trousers of an unknown colour. The fourth girl is described as 12 or 13 years old, thin, around 5ft tall with white or creamy, light clothing and trousers.

A police spokesman said: "This is a nasty offence and the investigation is being given a high profile.

"There were a number of children in the park at the time and we will be talking to them all, but we would still like to hear from anyone else who saw the incident.

"People may have seen what happened initially and not thought much of it, but they may be able to help us fill in some of the blanks."
