MY wife and I purchased our maisonette from Bury Council, many years ago. My wife has lived here 40 years, and I have lived here 26 years. During this time, we have created a lovely home, for ourselves.
However, during the past 15 years or so, Bury Council appear to have gone out of their way to inflict upon us a succession of "neighbours from hell".
Appeals made to letting officers and housing officials have done little to solve the problem. When one "disaster" left, another one took its place.
At the moment, one of the maisonettes next to us is unoccupied again, that is if you ignore the workmen hammering away to convert it into two flats, apparently for Balkan refugees. They will be installed, whether anybody likes it or not. I wonder how many such refugees will become neighbours of local councillors?
Just as an added joy, some residents park lorries and vans on a very limited parkng area, sometimes making it impossible for me to get my vehicle out of its rented garage. But the suggestion of putting down double yellow lines to maintain vital access was not taken up by the council. As a consequence, refuse collectors can't get within 50 yards and ambulances also have a problem.
There are many residents who would entirely agree with my sentiments. So if the council intend, once again, to ignore the wishes of local people, perhaps they will offer me a decent price for my house so that I can get the hell out of it!
