A FORMER garage site in Colne which has suffered vandalism and has become a hang-out for youths will soon be put up for sale and may be used for housing.
The Birtwistle East garage site was closed down and a wooden maze and kickabout area was created in its place to adjoin the existing play area, which is still used by children in the area.
But the site has suffered considerable vandalism and residents contacted their local councillors to complain about youths hanging around the area.
Vivary Bridge ward councillor, David Whalley, said: "The residents have said it would be much better if it was cleared and a small housing development put on the site would at least tidy it up."
Members of the council's executive approved officers recommendations that the site should be made surplus to the council's requirements and be marketed for sale up to the original play area, subject to a resolution to any access issues.
The only access to the site currently is a narrow vehicle access off Birtwistle Avenue which could restrict the maintenance of the play area.
