YOUNGSTERS from a Blackburn school rolled up their sleeves to take part in National Tree Week. With the help of Groundwork Blackburn children from St Andrew's Primary School planted around 200 trees in their school grounds.
Pupils at the school have been taking part in a project to improve their school grounds, which includes a large piece of wet land that has naturally developed into a diverse meadow.
A grant from the LWS Lancashire Environmental Fund has enabled Groundwork Blackburn to work with pupils and staff at the school to suggest and design improvements at the grounds. So far benches, made from recycled plastic, have been installed.
Alison Heaton, education officer at Groundwork, said: "This is a great opportunity for children to take practical action in the regeneration of their local environment."
