THE future of Todmorden Library looks to be secure as Calderdale libraries boss Martin Stone agreed with a demand that it should stay open.
Mr Stone, assistant chief leisure services officer (libraries), told the amenities committee that he agreed with their view that the popular town centre library should remain open all day on Thursday.
He said: "I trusted my staff, but they went for the wrong day."
He said the council staff were trying to keep the closure times consistent, pointing out that Hebden Bridge closed for half a day on Thursday
He agreed with Councillor Ruth Goldthorpe that Tuesday was traditionally half-day closing, and it was a nonsense to close the library on Thursday when the town centre shops, and particularly the open market, were busy that day.
Mr Stone revealesd that Todmorden library had the best record of usage than anywhere else in Calderdale, with the exception of Halifax and second best ahead of Brighouse.
