RESIDENTS in Weir have received the third issue of their newsletter and an invitation to take part in a survey organised by Groundwork Rossendale.
The environmental company is looking at ways to improve the area of woodland to the south of the former mill site of Irwell Springs.
Residents are asked to indicate what improvements they want in the area such as footpaths, replacement of bridges, wild flower planting and installing bar and bird boxes.
Weir Lodges and Woodlands Trust is still waiting to see if the Wordsworth Corporation resubmits its planning application to build houses on the site of the former mill off Heald Lane.
John Glendinning, chairman of the trust, recently met with the district review officer from Rossendale Council who is supervising the new District Plan and it is hoped the site can be redesignated.
In the meantime the trust has held a successful planting morning when bulbs and willow trees were planted on the banks of the River Irwell.
