BLACKPOOL residents are to have their say in the development of the resort over the next 15 years.
Questionnaires and leaflets are being distributed by Blackpool Borough Council to all residents and businesses across the town inviting comments on future plans, including the controversial casino scheme.
"Blackpool is at a critical point in its history and faces major decisions about its future," said Coun Roy Lewis, the executive member for regeneration and tourism.
"There are no easy answers to some of the issues raised but we think it vital that all sectors of the community are involved in the search for solutions and in developing a shared vision.
"We hope people will spare a few minutes to read the leaflet and complete the questionnaire. By doing so they will be playing a part in planning the future of our town."
Two years ago the council carried out a similar mailing scheme asking questions on the Local Transport Plan which proved successful.
Response to the leaflet and to a more detailed accompanying discussion document will be used in preparing a new local plan for the town covering the period 2001-2016.
Some of the issues raised are:
Which parts of the town need major change?
How can the town centre be made more competitive?
What new visitor attractions are needed and where?
Where should the resort accommodate casino hotel development if legislation proceeds and the principle of such development is accepted?
What to do with areas that do not have a long term future as holiday accommodation?
How much new housing and where?
How to tackle the problems of Blackpool's inner areas?
Are new sites needed for business and development?
Responses will be considered in preparing the draft local plan published next summer.
People have until the end of January to return the questionnaire and any further views to council by freepost.
For further information call the council's development plan team on 476238 or 476244.
