DARWEN cut loose to gain revenge over Chadderton, who had beaten them 3-2 in the league in recent weeks.

Three second half goals tied up success for Darwen but boss Steve Wilkes, though delighted with the win, felt his NWCL Second Division side should have had the game wrapped up long before.

"To be honest I felt we should have been six up by half-time," said Wilkes.

"Paul Baker could have had five in the first half, but on two occasions in the first half he managed to hit their keeper Lee Grogan with shots.

"But we played well and Matt Swailes had a good game setting up a number of chances."

It was from a Swailes assist that Baker fired Darwen in front after only seven minutes, but they had to wait for their second goal.

Chadderton went close to an equaliser just before half-time but Dean Smith sent a header just over the crossbar.

Baker made it two on 63 minutes but was struggling with a hamstring strain and Wilkes replaced him with Denny Khan.

Khan's impact was almost immediate as he bagged Darwen's third on 79 minutes and, with Chadderton down to ten men after Smith was sent off for a bad tackle, it was Swailes who wrapped up victory with a stunning goal.

A poor clearance by Grogan left him stranded and, from around the halfway line, Sawiles chested down the ball and lobbed a measured shot over the keeper and into the net.

"When you have won with four goals you should not be complaining," said Wilkes.

"We could have had more goals, but I was more happy that we kept a clean sheet for a second match in a row and if they are not scoring all you have to do is find the net to take the three points."
