A BURY doctor was today (Mon Nov 26) facing the General Medical Council's professional conduct committee over alleged misdemeanours arising from his work in Essex.
Accusations against Dr Surmit Mukherjee include prescribing drugs unnecessarily, excessively and irresponsibly to patients.
Dr Mukherjee, formerly Surmit Mukhopadhyay, was a Senior House Officer in General Geriatric Medicine and registered at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
Conditions were made on his registration by the General Medical Council's (GMC's) Interims Committee but he breached the order and had currently suspended pending the case. The doctor formerly practised in South Wales and now practices in Bury.
The conditions imposed, which he breached, were for him not to prescribe or administer any controlled drugs and to inform the Registrar of the GMC of any posts he undertakes.
He was further instructed to notify any employer or potential employer, whether for voluntary or paid work, at the time of application of the conditions imposed on his registration.
He now faces the allegation of prescribing drugs plus failing to record the prescriptions in the patients medical notes and failing to attend an arrest call when he was the call doctor.
