ACADEMY starlet Andy Bell warmed up for next week's FA Youth Cup clash against Chelsea with a timely brace for the Under 19s at the weekend.
Bell looks set to spearhead Rovers' attack alongside Jon Walters against the Blues.
And his two goals in Saturday's excellent 5-1 win over Stoke should act as a vital confidence booster ahead of the young guns biggest game of the season so far.
"Belly hasn't had the best of times in front of goal but he's working hard to try and do what we are asking him and those two goals should have done his confidence the power of good," said Academy chief, Bobby Downes.
Aside from Bell's double, Neil Danns, John Fitzgerald and Liam Blakeman were also on target for Ian Miller's men in what was a hugely impressive team performance.
And Rovers could even afford to rest top scorer Walters following his exertions with the reserves in midweek.
"It was pleasing to score so many goals without him featuring," added Downes.
Rob Kelly's Under 17s also ground out a useful point against Sunderland courtesy of a goal from Phil Howard in their 1-1 draw.
Kelly was forced to field an understrength side with four regulars missing through a combination of injuries and suspensions.
Meanwhile, Rovers two Academy sides face a free Saturday this weekend, which means the focus at Brockhall has now switched to next week's FA Youth Cup tie.
Downes himself ran a check on the Blues on Saturday as they beat Bristol City 2-0.
And he expects them to provide a stiff test at Ewood in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter.
"They looked a decent side with some decent players so it's going to be difficult.
"But I'm sure they're not exactly over the moon about coming to Blackburn either."
