FORMER Burnley and Blackburn players took centre stage as third division strugglers York shocked Colchester of the second division by sneaking through on penalties after taking the lead twice at Bootham Crescent.
York skipper, and former Clarets favourite, Chris Brass headed the Minstermen in front after eight minutes and there were only nine minutes left when Scott McGleish netted for United.
Graham Potter's left-foot finish looked to have given York a home tie against Reading but in injury time Karl Duguid's simple tap-in took the tie into extra time.
There were no more goals and City won 3-2 on spot-kicks when Northern Ireland goalkeeper Alan Fettis, a former Rovers stopper, saved Duguid's effort.
