A SCENIC view of the Bury of yesteryear is the subject of Bury Council's new Christmas card.
Nearly 30 long-vanished mill chimneys can be counted in the reproduction of the 1914 painting "Cinderhill, Above Gorsey Brow, Bury" by Walter J. Hill.
The oil painting was chosen from the many historic scenes in Bury art gallery's permanent collection.
The modern skyline is much changed, with green replacing the grey colours of 1914. However, fixtures such as the spires of Bury Parish Church, St Paul's and, on the horizon, All Saints, Stand, Whitefield still remain.
The full colour cards are £2 for five, available from Bury Town Hall, the Tourist Information Centre, Bury library and council offices across the borough.
There are also other mixed cards, featuring attractive spots in the borough, for £1 for five.
