IN response to the call by Mark Russell for a restriction on heavy goods-vehicles using the Haslingden-Blackburn Grane Road as a 'short cut' (Letters, November 5), I would point out that the speed limit for HGVs is 40mph and not 50mph as he stated.
Secondly, they are limited by law to 56mph.
Yes, indeed there is an advisory sign on the A56 Haslingden by-pass directing lorries heading towards the M65 to stay on the dual carriageway, but, alas, it is more than a 'few miles' extra via M65 and would anyone be happy for the cost of extra fuel and time to be passed on to the end-user -- you?
If Mr Russell were to research the rate of wagons and car accidents on the Grane Road, I am sure he would change his tune.
All that is needed there is a little patience and responsibility and, don't forget, if you have a car, a wagon brought it.
