EAST Lancashire MPs have expressed their concern for the future of the region's aerospace industry.
Rossendale and Darwen Labour MP Janet Anderson said:"Aerospace is a vital industry for the area with many small firms dependent on the larger firms. The government must do all it can to support the industry during the current recession. We cannot afford to lose these jobs and skills."
Tory MP Nigel Evans said:" Aerospace is crucial to East Lancashire. It is vital that we protect this industry. The government must do all it can to help and bring forward whatever orders it can. ''
Burnley MP Peter Pike said:"This is just another blow to the area. I have a meeting scheduled with Patricia Hewitt shortly and will raise the issue with her.
"This is going to be a very grim Christmas for many people in the area. There are many small aerospace firms in my constituency throughout Lancashire dependent on big prime contractors such as Rolls Royce and British Aerospace. There will be a major effect throughout these firms.
Hyndburn Labour MP Greg Pope said:"The whole of Lancashire is very dependent on aerospace. There will be knock-on effects throughout the county, including at aerospace contractors in my constituency."
