IT'S hats off to Darwen skate punksters, The Reserved, because this is among the best debut demos ever to land on the PULSE desk.

Even though it may not be sharp enough to secure a deal, I like everything about their creative, new wave approach to the style.

From the musical production down to the the artwork and even a computer enhanced section, this is a totally professional package.

The quartet of singer/guitarist Danny Whitehead, guitarist Oliver Kirkman, bassist Marc McKeown and drummer Simon Fort are all second year students on an Access to Music course, and their time at Blackburn College has clearly been used well.

But don't be put off by the 'Skate Punk' label because they are much more than just noise merchants. Recorded at Darwen's Cue music all five songs are intelligently put together with each musician given the space to make their own mark.

The pick is 'Psycho-Man' a fast, aggressive number featuring a tripping guitar line Ash would be proud of.

Overall a brilliant introduction to a young group who will only get better.

Leave Your Home Town is available at Reidy's priced £5.99 and the lads play Blackburn's Cellar Bar on Saturday December 8.
