PRESTWICH royalty will join radio and television personalities for the grand Christmas lights switch-on at the village today.
The group of Carnival Queens and Princesses, who were selected for the carnival parade in June this year, will help press the all-important button to illuminate the town.
They will be joined by Granada TV's Paul Crone, Tower FM's Paul Fairclough and comedian Bernard Wrigley, known as the Bolton Bullfrog.
The trio of stars are currently appearing in the pantomime Aladdin, at Bolton's Albert Halls, and will take time out of their busy schedule to appear at the event.
Organised by the Prestwich Sunshine Team, in conjunction with Prestwich Business Forum, Prestwich Lions and Bury Venues, the big switch-on will take place at 3.45pm followed by an open air concert.
Entertainment will be provided by all-girl group P6, singer Jo Bernstein and the children's choir from St Philip's Primary School, Broughton Park.
Father Christmas will be there, along with the Mayor of Bury, Coun Paul Nesbit, and MP Ivan Lewis, with the celebrations coming to a close at around 5.15pm.
Prior to the switch-on, from 1pm, a free concert has been arranged for the Over 60s in the Longfield Suite. Refreshments will be served and there will be singing and entertainment by P6 and other guests.
