TWO late night attacks in Burnley town centre are being investigated by police.

One of the attacks in which a white man was assaulted by two Asian men at 2.30am on Saturday is being treated as a racial incident.

The other incident was at 1.25am on Saturday in Boot Way when a man was hit on the back of the head with a Wicked drink bottle.

He was knocked semi-conscious and the offender made off towards the bus station.

The injured man was taken to hospital and went home after treatment.

Detective Sergeant Steve Mounsey said the aggrieved in the first incident was a 34-year-old man making his way from The Works night club, possibly to get a taxi.

He said: "He was approached by two Asian men in a dark coloured car who began to shout racist abuse at him.

"They then got out of the car and assaulted him repeatedly causing injuries to his face including cuts just above his eye-line."

DS Mounsey said the victim remembered that the vehicle had a distinctive engine sound.

He was taken to Burnley General Hospital for treatment and later went home.

Further police investigations are being made into both assaults and CCTV footage is being examined.

Violence in Burnley town centre has reduced in the last year following the launch of the Burnley Against Nightime Disorder or BAND scheme.

In the first year 52 people were banned from town centre late night pubs and clubs in addition to any court penalty which may have been imposed.

Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to contact Burnley CID on 01282 472144 or ring Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
