THIRTEEN Barnoldswick youngsters will help sew the seeds of fashion when they visit the headquarters of Accrington-based clothing manufacturer Simon Jersey Ltd this week.
The students from West Craven Technology College, Barnoldswick, will be given a special tour of the plant on the Altham industrial estate on Thursday as part of a project to learn the secrets of garment manufacturing.
The project will conclude with the pupils creating a garment of their own at the college.
During the tour the pupils, aged 13 to15, will be given an insight into every stage of the manufacturing process, ranging from the initial cloth cutting to pressing and finishing.
Manufacturing manager Janet Emmett said: "It will be an excellent opportunity for them to see the industrial machinery.
"Although the equipment is very sophisticated it should give the pupils a good insight into the basic principles of garment manufacture which will be useful for their own project work."
The visit has been organised by the East Lancashire Education Businesses Partnership.
