BLACKBURN Rovers have slammed reports suggesting they are ready to launch a big-money move for Sunderland hitman Kevin Phillips.
Speculation in the national Press over the weekend claimed Phillips is the new name on manager Graeme Souness's wish-list following his failure to land England forward Robbie Fowler.
But Ewood chief executive John Williams today insisted the story has no foundation whatsoever, even though Souness is currently scouring Europe for a partner for Matt Jansen.
"Due to the fact we were interested in Robbie Fowler people are suddenly putting two and two together and linking us with everyone," said Williams.
"But there is nothing in these latest stories."
Souness has made no secret of his desire to recruit another forward, particularly in light of his decision to off-load Marcus Bent to Ipswich.
And he is now likely to increase those efforts after watching Rovers draw a second successive blank at the weekend.
However, he still believes summer signing Ciccio Grabbi has all the tools to be a success in England -- despite reports linking him with a move back home.
And the former Juventus man could still have a long-term future at Ewood with Rovers yet to receive an official offer for the 26-year-old.
