PUPILS at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn, gave their full backing to a charity fundraising effort in support of PE teacher Roger Davies.
He was able to hand over a cheque for £1,450 to the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre and more than half that total was raised by children and staff at the school.
The rest came from donations from family and friends in memory of Roger's mother Julie, who died from a brain tumour earlier this year.
Julie was an active member of the Brownie movement as Brown Owl at Woodlands United Reform Church in Feniscowles and Roger said she would have approved of the money going to a children's charity.
"Tumours of the brain and spinal cords are rare in adults but they account for 25 per cent of the cancers in children," said Roger
"I was delighted that the staff and pupils at QEGS raised so much money to add to the funds that my father Alan and other members and friends of the family have contributed in mum's memory."
