BLACKBURN turned back the clock at the weekend for the start of the magical Victorian market.
Stalls throughout the three-day market in Blackburn town centre were transformed. From fish to flower stalls, traders pulled out all the stops to bring back the Victorian era.
And there is plenty for children, too. Santa Clause has set up shop in the market and has even brought a reindeer -- really a Shetland Pony Teddy Bear in disguise -- and some elves.
Acrobats and balloon sellers also helped bring nostalgia to the market, and a competition was run to find the best decorated stall.
Courtney Hugo and his wife Gillian run the W and D Moss fruit and vegetable stall, winner of the competition.
Courtney said: "If it brings people in to the market, it's well worth it. I would do this again, definitely. I think we won because of hard work and effort."
And runners-up Marlene and Roy Holden, who run Dye's and Dolls toy stall praised the changing face of the market.
Marlene said: "It's brilliant, a good atmosphere. I've never dressed up like this before and I'm really enjoying it. Some people didn't take part, though. It would be better if everyone did it."
Terry Longden, market manager, said: "This is Blackburn's opportunity to really bring the festive spirit into the market.
"From the early stages we have three weeks of exciting events. Everybody seems to be having a very good time at the moment. There are a lot of children around, and plenty of activities and events for them to take part in."
