He put the disappointment of being released by John Bond behind him to forge a successful career in the game.
After a spell Hull City, Andy was signed by Middlesbrough for a then club record fee of £800,000. Glasgow football giants Celtic were his next port of call, before he returned to England with Barnsley. This season Andy has managed to pass two personal footballing milestones that put him up there with the best of Burnley's strikers.
He netted his 200th league goal and made his 500th league appearance.
Andy was picked as one of the substitutes for Saturday's match at Crystal Palace, but did not come off the bench.
