A WOMAN was rescued from a smoke-logged house in St Annes today.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus rescued the woman from a fire on Tuesday, at a house on York Street, St Annes at about 8.40am.

The fire damaged the living room and also caused smoke damage to three other rooms. St Annes Fire Station officers used a hose reel and building ventilation equipment during the incident.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue spokesman said the woman, who has not been named, was treated at the scene by paramedics and that both the ground and first floor of the property were affected by heavy smoke.

Leading firefighter Mark Cairns of St Annes Fire Station confirmed: "There was a lady in the premises.

"It was smoke logged when we arrived with a fire going up the curtains in the back room."

He said the cause of the fire had not yet been confirmed.
