POLICE who hailed a burglary crackdown on a Darwen estate a success have turned their attention to another problem -- vandals.
Patrols on the St James estate were stepped up following a spate of burglaries in the area, in which more than 20 properties were targeted. Special constables were deployed as police used a high-visible approach in a bid to slash the crimes.
Inspector Graham Ashcroft said burglaries on the estate had virtually stopped, but added that the area was suffering further problems from vandals.
Mr Ashcroft said: "The burglaries seemed to have stopped, but the damage is continuing. Windows have been smashed, which is very dangerous, and cars have had their wing mirrors kicked off, suggesting it is probably youths that are responsible."
Mr Ashcroft said the patrols would carry on for another couple of weeks concentrating on both burglaries and vandalism.
