IAM in total agreement with Elaine Hutchinson (letters, November 29) on the subject of Scottish notes not being legal tender. Total rubbish!
Since when has Scotland been a foreign country?
The notes issued by the Royal Clydesdale Bank are perfectly legal as they are within the UK, excluding Republic of Ireland.
A few years ago I attended the England v Scotland match at Wembley and I was in the queue with other Scottish fans to buy an official programme. They all had Scottish notes. Did the programme seller refuse their money? No!
This year I was in Blackpool during the 'Scottish Week' when I was on the tram and a lot of Scottish visitors got on and all paid their fares with Scottish money. Did the conductors refuse them? No!
So to all you shopkeeprs, Scottish notes are legal tender, OK? In any case, why do we have hundreds of branches of the Royal Bank of Scotland in England? Think about it, I rest my case.
