ROB Kelly's young guns swept into the fourth round of the AXA FA Youth Cup last night courtesy of a Chelsea power show at a rain-lashed Ewood Park.

Goals from Alan Morgan, Jon Walters and Adam Nelson in the opening 38 minutes effectively ended the Blues' interest in this year's competition.

And Andy Bell then completed the rout with a fourth two minutes from time to cap a magnificent night for the young men from Brockhall.

However, the real star of the show was jet-heeled wingman Jerome Watt who underlined his growing reputation with another eye-catching display on the right.

Watt, as his name would suggest, was simply electric in a thrilling first half, laying on the first for Morgan before then winning a penalty which the goal-hungry Walters duly converted.

But, although Kelly was quick to praise his rising young star, he also stressed it was very much an all-round team effort.

"It was a great performance and a great result so I'm really delighted for the lads," beamed Kelly.

"Chelsea are a good side at this level but I thought we were brilliant individually and collectively."

In an embarrassingly one-sided first half, Rovers pinned the visitors in their own half for long spells with some crisp, attacking football and they were rewarded for a bright start with a goal after just nine minutes.

Ciaran Donnelly -- who was outstanding in midfield -- lost out in a challenge on the edge of the box but Watt pounced on the loose ball in a flash before gliding past two defenders and whipping over a low centre for Morgan to tuck away from six yards.

Donnelly then forced Chelsea keeper Glenn Wizik into a full-length save with a rasping 25-yard volley before Rovers added a second on 31 minutes.

Watt was again instrumental, ghosting past a defender before Ryan Stevenson sent him sprawling in the box, and Walters confidently slotted home from the spot.

In a rare Chelsea raid, lanky striker Carlton Cole nearly pulled one back when his shot struck a post following a deflection off Anthony Martin.

But Rovers then put the game out of reach with a peach of a third seven minutes before the break.

Michael Cole cut a clever ball back to Donnelly on the right touchline whose beautifully curled cross was emphatically headed home by the unmarked Nelson at the back post.

With the game sewn up, the second half failed to hit the same dizzy heights but Rovers remained in control and could have added to their tally.

Martin fired wide after more clever prompting from Morgan and Walters nearly capped a mazy run with a stunning finish but his effort flew just over the bar.

Rovers keeper Kieron Renton, a virtual spectator for the whole night, then denied Robert Huth with a brilliant point-blank stop from a corner.

But it was left to Bell to have the final say when he grabbed the goal his performance merited courtesy of a sublime finish in the 88th minute following another slick Rovers move on the edge of the box.
