THE landlady of a local pub is determined to find an antidote to today's brash, flash Christmas, and is looking for traditions to create a more peaceful festive season.
Angela Butler of Ye Old Sparrowhawk, Wheatley Lane Road, Fence, is asking customers to share anything from old recipes for puddings and drinks through to decorations for the tree and superstitions surrounding the season.
In return the best suggestion will be rewarded with a free festive meal for two.
Angela said: "The Victorians were responsible for shaping the modern festival but I think they would be horrified at the ghastly things we see today such as singing Santas and garish plastic decorations."
She added: "All I want to do is reintroduce the feel of Christmas as it used to be, a bit of peace and goodwill to all, rather than the noise and the glitz."
Anyone knowing of a local tradition possible passed down through generations of their family is asked to let Angela know.
