MORE than £3,000 was raised for charity during Darwen's annual gala, the gala committee revealed at its annual meeting.
The committee concluded that the 2001 gala had been a great success, despite a few hefty showers.
The new attraction of live groups brought in the crowds and the cash was raised by the various charities who held stalls and raffles.
The committee is always on the look-out for local acts who would like to perform at the Borough Road venue and it is also looking to make the road parade bigger and better next year.
Any street associations, churches, youth clubs or businesses, or anyone wishing to help either by walking or entering a float, would be welcome.
Darwen Gala 2002 will be held at Borough Road on August 17.
Anyone able to help with organisation will be welcome at the committee's next meeting on January 31 at the Ineos Social Club (formerly the ICI Club), on Bridge Street, Darwen, at 7.30pm.
