IN reply to Hilton Dawson's latest change of mind. I was pleased to see that Geraldine Smith repudiated the assertion by Dawson that she has settled for the Northern route to the M6 when in fact she hadn't and is still fighting for the Western route.

He seems to be pulling Tony Blair's trick of making it appear to be inevitable that we have the northern route.

What happened to the referendum papers some of us received. Was that a wasted exercise?

We have had just about everything now or so I thought but his latest is best of all. Wait for it - open up the Lancaster Canal to link up with Preston, Manchester and to London to help the economic development of the Lancaster area.

Stop me if I sound cynical but should the owners of the Lady Fiona and other canal barges start to get ready to accommodate trucks from France, Spain and Ireland.

I am trying to visualise this wonderful sight as I sit on the canal banks eating my spam sandwiches as this amazing transport system sails past me.

Please, please can someone get rid of this MP before he has any more brainstorms?
