DARRENERS raised £6,761 this year for the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal.
Secretary of the legion Terry Wyre said: "We beat last year's total by £800.
"I was quite surprised - it was a marvellous achievement.
"Every single penny will go to the poppy appeal."
Mr Wyre said he wished to thank everyone who had helped give to the appeal and to all the collectors who helped raise the cash.
He particularly thanked members of Darwen Trefoil Guild who every year help to boost funds by selling poppies around the town.
He said the legion would also like to thank Ramsbottom & Co solicitors, of Railway Road, who loaned the legion its premises to use as its headquarters during the appeal.
