THE newly-built Central United Reform Church centre in Darwen is hosting a Christmas service for shoppers and members later this month.
It marks the first use of the new worship centre for Christmas services since its opening and the elders and members are pleased to invite anyone to share in a half-hour of carols, readings and short comment.
The church, which opened earlier this year and has won a Civic Society award for design, sees its location as part of its mission to offer town centre services and fellowship in this new environment. The Rev Tamas Sugar, minister of the church, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming old and new friends to our new worship centre.
"It's at Christmas when people grow nearer to one another and many people need to come and experience a sense of peace, especially when the world is expressing exactly the opposite.
"Hopefully our new centre can offer respite to people who are searching for answers to the many questions involving serious events around the world.
"Everyone is invited and I hope that the people of Darwen will support this special time together as a community."
The event takes place on December 21 at 11am at the church on Duckworth Street. Refreshments will be available free after the service.
