STAND ATHLETIC manager Nick Davis has been named North West Counties Manager of the Month for the second time this season following his side's runaway success at the top of Division Two.
Davis may be an excellent soccer boss, but he's no King Canute and he could nothing to stop the heavy rain wiping out three recent home fixtures at Ewood Bridge.
The visit of high-flying Alsager Town and last Saturday's match against Oldham Town were hit along with the derby against Colne, scheduled for last Tuesday night.
Tomorrow there's a trip to Blackpool Mechanics and it could be a safe bet to see some football there, as their Jepson Way pitch is usually a good playing surface.
Mechanics have been on the fringe of the leading pack all season and are a well -organised and good side. A hard-fought 2-1 win in September proved just that, but it's important that Stand get back into action to maintain their good run, but with a busy December planned, a break before will not be to the teams benefit.
December sees some long trips for Stand. After the Blackpool game, there is a home clash with Ashton Town on the 15th, then its down to the Potteries to visit Stone Dominoes and on Boxing Day a home clash against Padiham.
This is followed by another long trip down to Leek CSOB. The good part of all this, is that Stand will have done all the long travelling before going into the New Year.
In January, there is some cup action to be played, there is a mouth-watering Manchester Premier cup clash against First Division leaders Salford City at Moor Lane.
This will be an evening kick-off and full details will be given nearer the time.
A quick mention for Steve Ball's reserve side. After an early season struggle of close matches, the reserves have put together a good four-match unbeaten run, which was topped off by a 3-0 win at Chadderton two weeks ago. Their Saturday clash at Salford was also called off. Full details on 07950-102307.
