RADCLIFFE BOROUGH will be going all out for a victory tonic at Matlock on Saturday with many people's thoughts still with their recuperating manager, Kevin Glendon.
Glendon was struck down by an angina attack as he travelled home from last Saturday's home game with Leek Town and spent the night in Wythenshawe Hospital.
He was released on Sunday evening, but has spent most of the week so far recovering at home as he struggles to come to terms with being hit by the illness for the first time in his life.
Glendon, just 40, arrived at the ground last Saturday complaining of feeling tired, but it wasn't until later in the evening that the reasons for that materialised.
It had been a bad week for the Glendons regarding illness and injury prior to that anyway. Son George, just five, had to make two trips to hospital after breaking an arm, all of which probably contributed to what happened on Saturday night.
Mike Farrelly, Glendon's assistant, has taken temporary charge of team affairs during the manager's absence and he reports no injury problems for Saturday's trip to Matlock.
Midfield man Scott Wilson will be missing as he serves a one-match suspension, but Farrelly hopes to fill the gap with the return of skipper Mark Dempsey, who missed last week's 3-1 win over Leek Town with flu.
Matlock have enjoyed a superb run of form recently, losing just once since October 5 and climbing to fifth in the table before this week's midweek fixtures.
They are managed by a man many fans of lower League football will remember. Ernie Moss was a striker who served his local club Chesterfield well along with Port Vale, Mansfield and Peterborough. He was still cracking the goals in for Matlock just a few years ago.
Steve Taylor has taken over the goalscoring mantle now for Town and has hit 16 so far this season. They will be without midfield man Andy Simpson, who was stretchered off with an ankle injury after scoring Town's goal in a 1-1 draw at Witton last Saturday.
Ian Clarke is likely to step back in from suspension to fill the gap in midfield, although Matlock also have former Chester player, Kevin Noteman and Julian Capuano vying for a place in the team.
