Radcliffe Borough 3, Leek Town 1: ANOTHER fine win for Radcliffe against Leek on Saturday was overshadowed by the news that manager Kevin Glendon had been taken to hospital hours after the game, writes STEVE BOTT.

Glendon felt unwell as he journeyed to his home in Stockport and went to Wythenshawe Hospital were he was admitted and stayed in overnight before being released on Sunday evening following tests.

Glendon has been diagnosed as suffering from angina, a condition he has never had before. He is not expected to be back behind his desk at Stainton Park until next week at least.

Mike Farrelly, Glendon's assistant, is expected to take temporary charge of team affairs until Glendon returns, but Boro have no match in midweek and are not due to play again until Saturday's trip to Matlock.

Visiting goalkeeper Kevin Welsby was kept busy as Boro went at Leek from the start.

It was soonm pretty obvious that Boro were not going to have too much difficulty clocking up the double over Leek after recording a fine 3-0 win in Satffordshire back in September.

The home side took the lead after just four minutes when Jody Banim whipped in a cross that Simon Kelly headed home for his second goal in successive games.

Martin Ridley should have equalised for Leek in the ninth minute when he burst through, but Boro keeper Danny Hurst raced off his line quickly to smother the shot.

Welsby produced a tremendowus reflex save to deny Eamon Elliott following a fine, sweeping move and although Leek enjoyed their fair share of possession, with Danny Hobby their main threat, it was Boro who went further in front two minutes before the interval.

Kelly's persistence set up a chance for Elliott and he volleyed in from eight yards out.

Leek started the second half positively, but faield to come up with anything that caused Hurst much concern. Ian Bold did get through once, obly to see Hurst deny him with a fine, full-length save.

Boro's thrid goal was fashioned and finished by their strike pair of Banim and Richard Landon. They exchanged passes before Banim hammered in his 19th goal of the season.

Simon Tucker pulled a goal backm for Leek when he turned in a Dave Whittaker cross in the 67th minute, but it was no more than a consolation for Leek, who were a well-beaten side.
