WHILE MP Lindsay Hoyle might welcome the news that the Government are going to provide more free nursery places in Lancashire, I wish he and others would look at the lack of childcare places once your child goes to school (Citizen November 29).
As a single, working parent, I have found it really difficult to get an after-school childcare place for my seven-year-old. Not enough schools offer after-school clubs and childminders able to travel to a school of a parent's choice are few and far between -- especially when they have children of their own at another school.
Before the Government starts 'encouraging' single parents to get back to work once their children are at school they should look at the childcare provision available and give schools incentives for offering free childcare places for older children. Name and address supplied.
