ELVIS Aaron Presley is alive and well, thrusting the hips, shaking the legs and curling the lip as he sings the King's old favourites.
Elvis Junior that is. The one who was awarded the name legally by the Federal US Court after documents proved him to be the illegitimate son of Elvis. Intriguing, isn't it?
Opening with 'C C Ryder' and closely followed by 'The Wonder of You', Elvis appears in a leather and silver spangled outfit with the familiar cape and admits to being 'a bit jet-lagged' on the first night of his 10-day UK tour.
It doesn't show though, as his fine performance is a great tribute to the man who became a legend. This baby-faced Elvis has his father's humour and received an enthusiastic response from the Blackburn fans.
He punctuates his songs with anecdotes of his extraordinary life; a circus performer in childhood, his meetings with Elvis and Colonel Parker, his discovery that he was conceived on the set of Blue Hawaii and his visits to Graceland.
"Dad was one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived. I am not here to take his place. I am just here to make people happy," he says.
He sensitively sings 'My Boy' which he says was written about him.
The excellent band with superb saxophonist sometimes drowned the vocals, but it was wonderful to hear songs like 'It's Now or Never', 'Heartbreak Hotel' and 'Teddy Bear' again.
There will never be another Elvis but Junior does resemble him in many ways, brings alive the magic of the Elvis years, and the whole show is a lot of fun.
There is another chance to see the show at Blackpool Opera House on Tuesday. It's a must for curious Elvis fans everywhere.
