WHEN he opened the gardens in 1916 Councillor Leigh said "Lord Ashton has done a service to St Annes which will be cherished in increasing measure by the inhabitants as the years roll by".
He did not say they would be cherished until 2001.
If the Council sells off this land it will be in breach of the trust in which it holds the land on behalf of the people of the town.
