WITH reference to your report on Monday December 3, regarding Mr Riding's parking problem in Blackburn Road, at the Great Harwood Area Council meeting on November 8, a large contingency of residents boisterously aired their concerns about illegal parking in the town and the lack of enforcement.

Inspector Steve Lee indicated at that meeting that he was aware of the situation and although funding was not available, he would endeavour to second a traffic warden to enforce restrictions as requested at this lively meeting.

This he has done and should be congratulated for his successful efforts. While I sympathise with Shaun, he must have been aware of the parking restrictions outside the house, as in many locations throughout Great Harwood, before he and his girlfriend moved in 16 months ago.

David Low, principal traffic and transport engineer for Hyndburn Council, is a very experienced and capable officer and has suggested that if there is sufficient demand, he will look at the restrictions, as he would elsewhere in Hyndburn.

I would like to invite Shaun and his girlfriend to the next meeting of Great Harwood Area Council on January 29 where they will be at liberty to express their concerns where it matters.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate Shaun and Michelle on their expected little bundle of joy in the next few months and I look forward to seeing them both on January 29.

COUNCILLOR PETER CLARKE, Vice-chairman, Great Harwood Area Council, Ash Lane, Great Harwood.
