ROVERS' young guns have been rewarded for their 4-0 win over Chelsea in midweek with a home tie in the next round of the AXA FA Youth Cup.

Swindon Town will visit Ewood in the fourth round of the prestigious competition in January.

But Academy chief Bobby Downes is certainly not taking the Robins lightly.

"Obviously, all you can ask for is a home draw so we have to be pleased with that," said Downes.

"But Swindon will be no pushovers and we'll be preparing for this game as we would for any other.

"I must admit I don't know too much about them other than they beat Yeovil in the last round and they've got an Under 19s team and an Under 17s.

"But we'll be watching them over the next couple of weeks to see if we can find out a bit more about them."

Town are due to face Torquay next weekend and Downes has already circled that date in his diary as a possible chance to see them himself at closer quarters.

In the meantime, though, he was delighted with Tuesday night's win over Chelsea as Rovers picked up from where they left off in last season's competition when they went all the way to the final.

"Sometimes kids can freeze on the night but our lads didn't and they really did themselves justice against a decent side," said Downes.

"Chelsea are a lot better than they showed on the night but three or four of their players didn't perform.

"As for us, I thought we started brightly and the game was really over with as a contest by half time.

"So it was nice to put on a performance at home and good for the kids to show our fans what they can do."

The date for Rovers' Youth Cup clash with Swindon has yet to be decided but the tie must be played before January 26.
