OLDHAM TOWN...2
BACUP...2
BACUP boss Brent Peters again had to settle for a point after his side squandered a two goal lead.
A 68th minute penalty and then a 75th minute strike both from front-runner Jason Lanns had put Bacup up the driving seat, but two late goals - one from the penalty spot - earned Town a point.
"It was the same old story of us taking a lead and then letting two of the three points slip," said Peters.
"We are the draw specialists. We've only been beaten four times in the league but we haven't won games that we should have done.
"Having said that we were rusty in the first half, the strikers were too static and predictable.
"It was only after half-time when I asked for more movement that we switched on and were cruising after the goals. I got what I asked from them only for two mistakes at the end to let two points slip away which was disappointing."
In the first half Bacup struggled to create chances, though Karl Stanley squandered a good opportunity when through on the keeper.
In the second half a livelier Bacup gained a penalty when Lanns turned his man only to be brought down in the box, he converted the spot kick, and then on 75 minutes he cut past two defenders before lifting his shot beyond the advancing keeper.
But Town hit back when Vinnie Patterson was caught in possession and an Oldham striker looped in a speculative shot and then Mark Hall was judged to have climbed on the man he was marking to concede the penalty that gave the home side an equaliser.
Peters will be hoping that his side can break the draw hoodoo when they are at home to Maine Road in the Worthington Challenge Trophy tomorrow night (7.45).
